Easterlies to bring rains over Luzon, Visayas
The easterlies are forecast to drench parts of Luzon and the Visayas with rains on Thursday, May 21, the state weather bureau said.
In its 4 p.m. public weather forecast on Wednesday, PAGASA said the easterlies are expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and the Visayas.
Also known as the easterly trade winds or “silanganin,” the easterlies refer to winds that originate from the east.
The easterlies can be experienced throughout the year, but they are common during the dry season from March to May.
While the easterlies typically bring warm and humid weather, the state weather bureau said there are also instances when these cause rainfall and thunderstorms.
On the other hand, localized thunderstorms are projected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms over the whole of Mindanao.
PAGASA warned of possible flash floods and landslides during severe thunderstorms in the above-mentioned areas.
The maximum temperature recorded, based on data from the PAGASA Weather Station in Science Garden, Diliman, Quezon City, reached 33.2°C at 11 a.m.., while the minimum dropped to 24.8°C at 5 a.m.
