Tropical depression outside PAR now tropical storm Jangmi —PAGASA

The tropical depression outside the Philippine area of responsibility has intensified into a tropical storm, state weather bureau PAGASA said Wednesday.

As of 10 a.m., the center of tropical storm (international name Jangmi) was estimated at 1,300 km east of Northeastern Mindanao. It is packed with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 80 km/h, and central pressure of 1002 hPa.

It is moving north northwestward at 10 km/h. It is forecast to move north northwestward from Wednesday until Thursday. Afterwards, it will move generally northwestward over the Philippine Sea before turning north northwestward to northward by the weekend.

The tropical storm is expected to enter PAR Thursday evening, May 28, and will be given the local name Domeng.

It is forecast to enter PAR as a severe tropical storm and may reach typhoon category on Saturday, May 30, over the Philippine Sea.

PAGASA said Domeng is less likely to make landfall over the country. However, its periphery may still bring gusty conditions over extreme Northern Luzon.

The highest tropical cyclone wind signal that may be raised during the passage of this tropical cyclone is Wind Signal No. 1, the weather bureau said.

It added moderate to rough sea conditions may be experienced over the seaboards of extreme Northern Luzon this weekend. Raising of gale warning over the area is also possible.

PAGASA said the weather disturbance may also enhance the Southwest Monsoon starting on Saturday. —AOL, GMA News
