The Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, is expected to bring rains over the northern and central portions of Luzon on Friday, the state weather bureau PAGASA said.

According to the state weather bureau’s 24-hour-weather forecast issued at 4 p.m. of Thursday, the Habagat is expected to bring occasional rains over the Ilocos Region, Zambales, and Bataan.

The weather system is also expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cavite, and Batangas.

The localized thunderstorms, on the other hand, are expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms over the rest of the country.

PAGASA officially declared the start of the Habagat season, one of the precursors of the onset of the rainy season, last May 30.

The maximum temperature recorded, based on data from the PAGASA Weather Station in Science Garden, Diliman, Quezon City, reached 31.8°C at 12 p.m., while the minimum dropped to 25.4°C at 6:00 a.m.

Moreover, the sunset is expected at 6:23 p.m. today, while the sunrise on Friday is expected at 5:26 a.m. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA News
