Habagat to bring rains over western section of Mindanao

The Southwest Monsoon, or Habagat, will affect the western section of Mindanao on Wednesday, the state weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday.

In its 4 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA said the Habagat will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the Zamboanga Peninsula, Lanao del Norte, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and South Cotabato.

The rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.

PAGASA warned that flash floods or landslides may occur during moderate to heavy rains or severe thunderstorms.

As of 3 p.m., Super Typhoon Bavi remained outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), located about 1,705 kilometers east of Central Luzon. It was packing maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 230 km/h.

Bavi is expected to enter PAR between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning, when it will be assigned the local name Inday.

PAGASA said Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) No. 2 and No. 3 may be hoisted over the northern and eastern portions of Northern Luzon during the super typhoon's passage.

Moderate winds and moderate coastal waters are expected over Mindanao and the eastern sections of Luzon and the Visayas, with wave heights ranging from 1.2 to 2.5 meters.

Light to moderate winds and slight to moderate coastal waters, meanwhile, are forecast over the rest of the country, where wave heights will range from 0.6 to 1.5 meters.

Sunrise in Metro Manila on Wednesday will be at 5:33 a.m. —Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/VBL, GMA News
