Signal No. 2 stays over Batanes as Typhoon Inday speeds toward Japan

Signal No. 2 remains hoisted over Batanes as Typhoon Inday moved faster while moving northwestward toward the southern islands of Japan, the weather bureau PAGASA said on Friday night.

According to the tropical cyclone bulletin issued at 11 p.m., Batanes, under Signal No. 2, is expected to experience winds ranging from 62 km/h to 88 km/h for at least 24 hours.

Light to moderate damage is expected for high-risk structures, while the sea and coastal waters are dangerous to small boats.

Signal No. 1 is up over the following areas:

  • Cagayan including Babuyan Islands,
  • the northeastern portion of Isabela (Santa Maria, San Pablo, Maconacon, Cabagan, Santo Tomas, Delfin Albano, Tumauini, Ilagan City, Divilacan, Palanan),
  • Apayao, and
  • the northern and central portions of Ilocos Norte (Piddig, Bangui, Vintar, Burgos, Pagudpud, Bacarra, Adams, Pasuquin, Carasi, Solsona, Dumalneg, Nueva Era)

Under Signal No.1, winds of 39-61 km/h may be expected in at least 36 hours, or intermittent rains may be expected within 36 hours.

The weather advisory issued at 11 p.m. showed rainfall of 100 mm to 200 mm is expected in Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique from Friday night to Saturday night.

PAGASA said numerous flooding events are likely, especially in areas that are urbanized, low-lying, or near rivers. Landslide likely in moderate to highly susceptible areas.

Rainfall of 50 mm to 100 mm is expected in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Palawan, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, and Negros Oriental over the same time period.

PAGASA said localized flooding is possible mainly in areas that are urbanized, low-lying, or near rivers. Landslide possible in highly susceptible areas.

The center of Typhoon Inday was near the center, and gustiness was up to 170 km/h. It was moving at 25 km/h. –NB, GMA News
