Kiyapo intensifies into typhoon outside PAR, Signal No. 1 remains over four areas

Kiyapo has rapidly intensified into a typhoon and is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but Signal No. 1 remains over four areas, according to the Tropical Cyclone Bulletin posted by PAGASA.

The center of Typhoon Kiyapo was estimated at 320 kilometers west of Basco, Batanes (outside PAR) with maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center, gustiness of up to 150 km/h and moving west northwestward at the speed of 25 km/h.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. is hoisted over the following areas:

Luzon

• Batanes
• the western portion of Babuyan Islands (Calayan Is., Dalupiri Is., Fuga Is.)
• the northwestern portion of mainland Cagayan (Pamplona, Sanchez-Mira, Claveria, Santa Praxedes)
• the northern portion of Apayao (Luna, Calanasan)
• Ilocos Norte

Heavy Rainfall Outlook

Heavy rainfall outlook due to Tropical Cyclone Kiyapo on Saturday is 50-100 mm in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Apayao, and Abra.

Heavy rainfall outlook due to Southwest Monsoon on Saturday is moderate to heavy (50-100 mm) in Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.

Severe Winds

The Southwest Monsoon and the periphery of Kiyapo will bring strong to gale-force gusts over the following areas (especially in coastal and upland areas exposed to winds) over most of Luzon, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Northern Samar, Zamboanga del Norte, and Davao Oriental.

Hazards affecting coastal waters

A Gale Warning is in effect over the northern seaboard of Northern Luzon.

Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor as soon as possible until winds and waves subside.

Track and Intensity Outlook

Kiyapo is forecast to move generally northwestward until Sunday, July 26, 2026 towards southern mainland China before turning north northwestward.

"Due to favorable environment conditions, Kiyapo will continue to strengthen in the next 12 hours, prior to its landfall. Afterwards, Kiyapo is expected to weaken rapidly as it moves further inland," said PAGASA. — BAP, GMA News
