Government forces arrested an alleged leader and seven members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.

Authorities also seized several firearms and explosives during the operations in Barangay Bunawan and Barangay San Teodoro.

Those arrested were identified as alias “Nikki,” secretary of the Southern Mindanao Regional Committee (SMRC)-Regional Party; alias “Gideon,” vice commanding general; alias “Pam,” unit’s medic; alias “Jomilyn;” alias “Laloy;” alias “Tonton;” alias “RonRon;” and alias “Jelyn.”

The Eastern Mindanao Command (EastMinCom) said the individuals arrested are said to be the remaining elements of the Jaguar Platoon under the SMRC.

"We commend our forces for their restraint and commitment to preserving life. These individuals were taken alive, a testament to our principle of providing even those led astray the opportunity to return to the folds of the law. Their capture illustrates the continued collapse of the NPA's influence, as they now operate at the margins, cut off from community support," EastMinCom Commander, Lt. Gen. Luis Rex Bergante, said.

The Police Regional Office-Caraga (PRO-13) added that the arrested rebels will face charges for alleged violations of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act (RA 10591) and unlawful possession of explosives (RA 9516).

"This successful arrest delivers a decisive blow to the Communist Terrorist Group’s operations. It underscores our strong resolve to carry forward our mission anchored on upholding the rule of law and respecting human rights in line with the order of Chief PNP, PGen Nicolas Torre III," PRO-13 Director, Brigadier General Christopher Abrahano, said.
