President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has ordered law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the shooting at the Junior High School campus of Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU) in Barangay Tumaga, Zamboanga City on August 18, 2026, that left two people dead.

In a statement, Marcos directed the investigating bodies to identify key measures to prevent similar incidents.

“I have directed our law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident and to determine what more must be done to prevent another family, another school, and another community from suffering the same grief,” Marcos said.

Marcos expressed solidarity with the affected community as he emphasized that such violence should never occur.

“Our schools are where we entrust our children to learn, to grow, and to dream about the lives ahead of them. They must also be among the safest places in our country,’” Marcos added.

The President said the government will work with schools and communities to strengthen the safeguards that protect students and ensure that they can pursue their education without fear.

“Every Filipino family deserves that assurance,” Marcos said.
