Eleven persons who perished in the magnitude 6.9 offshore earthquake were laid to rest.

The 11 victims from Sitio Laray, Barangay Binabag, Bogo City were buried on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.

The 11 victims were in a common wake under tents, and were also buried simultaneously.

As if the downpour expressed sorrow to the families, alongside their mourning for the deceased. The downpour started in the morning, and did not let up until the 11 victims were buried by 3 p.m.

Neljun Tapang and Ariel Caylan, brothers in law, said that they too have lost seemingly their lives after the earthquake jolted Cebu and neighboring provinces. Both were at work at a construction site in Liloan when the tragedy struck.

It was learned that Caylan lost his wife two months ago to a different circumstance, which he did not elaborate. Their only child, about two years old, was among those who perished in the powerful earthquake.

The child was under the care of his wife’s sister, one Joan Villamor. But when Villamor was pinned to death in a rockslide, Caylan's child was among the casualties.

Villamor’s two children also died, a 6-year old and a 2-year old.

Villamor is Tapang's wife. Tapang said he felt he died along with his family.

“Naa gihapon ang kahuot sa dughan, naghunahuna sa ilahang tulo. Wa gyud plano, blangko pa akong utok,” Tapang said.

Caylan said he is miserable at the loss of an only child.

“Sa akong bahin, lisud kaayo mawad-an og anak, mao pa gyud ra ni usa, lisud gyud kaayo," Caylan stressed.

Meanwhile, a father and his son, Crisanto and Jeffrey Crisostomo, could not do more but watch in grief their devastated house in SM Cares Village in Barangay Polambato in Bogo City, after Jeffrey’s wife was buried on October 5, 2025 along with their two female children, ages 16 years old 12 years old.

Jeffrey and his 13-year-old son who survived the tragedy do not want to live again in the same place.

"Sobra kasakit pa. Di na mi mopuyo dinhi kay mahinumduman namo silang tulo. Manawagan mi nga unta matagaan mi og panginabuhian bisan tinda-tinda lang, aron makasustento sa eskwela ani akong anak,” Jeffrey said.

He used to be a construction worker, but has a hard time lifting objects now because of a fracture in the right arm.

He appealed for livelihood opportunities to sustain their daily needs.

Further, the Department of Labor and Employment 7 has distributed financial assistance worth P5,400 each to over 2,000 Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program beneficiaries in Bogo City composed of displaced workers and those who lost members of their family, as well as livelihood program.

"Sa entire Bogo is  14 beneficiaries (namatayan). Aside sa TUPAD na cash assistance na binigay natin sa kanila, mayroon tayong livelihood program doon sa namatayan,” said Victor Tulod II, DOLE 7 labor and employment officer.

Moreover, residents in heavily affected areas have resumed normalcy in their daily lives.

Unlike the previous days, none has raised placards asking for help anymore, as of October 8, 2025. The message on the placards by the roadside was replaced with words of thanks to donors and volunteers, and words of hope and encouragement.

The family of Catherine Precilas, for example, is back to selling since October 6, 2025. Their Automated Tubig Machine is already functional after supply of water and power has resumed at the boundary of Borbon and Tabogon towns.

“Malaking pasalamat  namin sa mga tulong na dumating dito sa area namin dahil du’n may nagbigay  ng mga pagkain at tubig, na-encourage na din po tayo, dapat di mawalan ng pag-asa,” Precilas said.
