A gymnastics athlete got injured while in the middle of an in-competition routine in the ongoing Palarong Pambansa 2026 in Agusan del Sur, Governor Santiago Cane, Jr. confirmed in a press conference in Prosperidad on Thursday, May 28, 2026.

Cane said the gymnast will receive necessary assistance from the provincial government.

“Totoo yan, sir. That report came to my attention and I already instructed our health office to do anything and everything to assist medically and financially. Nangangailangan ata ng stainless, sinasagot po yun ng provincial government,” Cane said.

The student-athlete’s identity was not disclosed during the conference.

DepEd Undersecretary and Palarong Pambansa Secretary-General Malcolm Garma cited privacy concerns.

“Meron tayong data privacy so we don't really divulge the identity of the athlete,” Garma said.

Cane also said it would be unlikely for the gymnast to go on in the competition, especially if assessed with bone damage.

“That would depend on the certification issued by the competent medical professional. Wala pa po kami natanggap, pero syempre kung nabali yung buto nya, hindi na siguro,” Cane added.
