The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has announced the start of the closed fishing season in the Davao Gulf, which will last until August 31, 2026.
BFAR said the closed fishing season began on June 1, 2026, as part of the measures to protect small fish species and ensure the sustainability of the Davao Gulf.
Authorities said this period coincides with the spawning season of fish such as matambaka, alumahan, and galunggong, among others*.*
The fishing ban covers the waters from Cape of San Agustin in Governor Generoso, Davao Oriental, up to Talagutong Point in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental.
Only registered fishermen using legal nets are allowed to operate.
Violators of the closed fishing season will face penalties.
