Several barangays in Iligan City and Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao del Sur experienced flooding following heavy rains evening on Wednesday, July 1, 2026.
In Maguindanao del Sur, areas in Barangay Papakan, Sultan sa Barongis, turned like water world due to the floods.
Some houses were submerged in floodwaters, while some residents were seen using boats to get across.
In Sitio Dundungen of the same barangay, floodwaters reached waist level along pathways, which forced residents to move into other houses.
Floodwaters also reached knee level and entered several houses in Barangay Caridad.
Floodwaters subsided gradually.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the rains experienced in the area were caused by the southwest monsoon, which was intensified by Tropical Storm Henry.
In Iligan City, several roads were flooded anew due to heavy rains.
A video taken by a netizen showed floodwaters in Barangay Acmac rising above gutter level.
In Barangay Hinaplanon, roads turned into small creeks as floodwaters overflowed.
According to the Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), street flooding affected Barangays Del Carmen, Pala-o, Hinaplanon, Poblacion, and Acmac.
“Kana gayud diha nga mga areas sauna pa na ginabaha na we’re trying to find ways to mitigate. That’s why panahon sa Basyang, naa tay mga declogging nga gibuhat,” CDRRMO Head, Armien Alorro, said.
However, no damage was reported from the flooding, and the floodwaters quickly subsided.
Authorities said the rain was brought by a localized thunderstorm.
FIRE INCIDENT
Meanwhile, a fire broke out in Barangay Tambacan past 10 p.m. amid the downpour.
The fire was raised to third alarm.
Based on initial data from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), around 18 houses were affected, displacing at least 33 families.
No one was reported hurt in the incident.
Authorities are still investigation the cause of the fire.
“Naghatag na ta og mga ayuda. Wala man tay evacuation center kay nagpuyo sila sa ilang mga paryente,” Alorro added.
