Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental confirms receiving a security threat on Monday, July 6, 2026.

In a statement early evening on July 6, the university said it has activated safety and security protocols in coordination with the police.

"Members of the University community are requested to remain calm and strictly follow the instructions of security personnel and University officials. Please avoid spreading unverified information and rely only on official University communication channels for updates," the school said.

In a post on its Facebook account, the student government urged people in campus to leave the school premises.

The threat was reportedly sent to an email and circulated on message groups.

ONLINE CLASSES

In a separate post later in the evening, the university said campus security, in coordination with authorities, "continues to conduct security inspections of campus premises to ensure the safety and well-being of the University community."

Because of this, classes at all levels on July 7, Tuesday, "shall be conducted online, either synchronously or asynchronously, at the discretion of the respective instructors. Students are advised to monitor their official University email and MySoul for instructions from their teachers."

Meanwhile, university employees "shall work from home and are expected to remain on standby to perform their duties and respond promptly to work-related concerns as needed," the university said in a separate post.

CAMPUS SAFE

In a post on Facebook shortly before midnight on July 6, Silliman University said the campus has been declared safe following a security sweep.

Still, it reminded its community "to remain vigilant and to immediately report any suspicious activity or unattended items to the Campus Security and Safety Office or the appropriate authorities."

"Although the campus lockdown has been lifted, enhanced security measures remain in effect. Strict gate inspection protocols will continue, and Campus Security and Safety personnel will maintain heightened monitoring and thorough inspections of University premises," it said.

"The safety, security, and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors remain the University's highest priority," it added.
