Vice President Sara Duterte arrived at the Senate at midday on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the second day of the impeachment trial against her.

She, however, will only meet with her defense team and is not expected to attend trial, her lawyer, Atty. Michael Poa, said.

She was not present on Day 1 but was represented by a team of lawyers led by Atty. Sheila Sison.

Heightened security was put in palace hours before Duterte arrived.

At the Senate, she told reporters: “In this bloodbath and bludgeoning, I will be bloodied but unbowed.”

On Day 2, the Senate, acting as an impeachment court, is set to hear testimonies regarding allegations that Duterte threatened President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.; First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos; and former Speaker Martin Romualdez.

These allegations are outlined under Article IV of the Articles of Impeachment against, which are set to be tackled beginning Tuesday, July 7.

On Day 1 of the trial, presiding officer Senator Francis Escudero ordered the issuance of subpoenas for two officials of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to appear in the proceedings

According to a report by GMA News Online, these NBI officials identified as Jeremy Lotoc and John Mark Calilung are among the first witnesses scheduled to testify from July 6 to 8, based on the prosecution panel’s manifestation dated July 3.

The defense team has maintained that Duterte was merely exercising her freedom of expression over the alleged threat made during a live video in November 2024 involving the President and his family.
