The incumbent vice mayor of Marantao, Lanao del Sur, who was linked to a shooting incident in Initao, Misamis Oriental, that killed a woman and wounded a minor girl, has been arrested.

Police said Marantao Vice Mayor Ali Eskandar Unte Alonto III was arrested by virtue of warrants for murder and frustrated murder at an inn in Barangay San Miguel, Iligan City on Friday, August 21, 2026.

The warrants were issued by a court in Initao.

Authorities said the 36-year-old suspect was listed as the number four most wanted person in the region, number three in the province, and number one in the town.

According to the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10), the suspect was allegedly involved in the killing of a woman and the wounding of a minor girl in Initao, Misamis Oriental on February 16, 2026.

The woman was found lifeless with a gunshot wound in the head when police officers arrived at the area in Barangay Tubigan while the girl, believed to be the woman’s companion, was also found a few meters away from the scene asking for help.

PRO-10 said it remains committed to enforcing the law without regard to a person’s position.

“Walang pinipiling katayuan ang batas. Ang pagkakaaresto sa Region 10s No. 4 Most Wanted Person, na isang Vice Mayor, ay patunay na walang sinuman ang higit sa batas. Patuloy ang PRO10 sa paghahanap at pag- aresto sa mga wanted person, anuman ang kanilang posisyon, upang matiyak ang hustisya at kaligtasan ng ating mga komunidad,” PRO-10 said.

The suspect arrested is now under police custody.
