BTS at UNGA: ‘Let’s dream about a future when our worlds can break out of our small rooms again’

“Life goes on. Let’s live on.”

BTS has shared a message of hope for young people amid the global pandemic at the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In their remarks, RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook encouraged the youth to “dream about a future when our worlds can break out of our small rooms again.”

The group members said they were devastated that the COVID-19 pandemic derailed their world tour and other plans.

“I felt hopeless. Everything fell apart,” said Jimin. “Yesterday, I was singing and dancing with fans around the world, and now my world has shrunk to a room.”

With the release of their album “Map of the Soul: 7” in February, BTS was about to start their new stadium world tour, which spans major cities across the US, Europe, and Asia.

But when the coronavirus disease broke out early this year, the group had to postpone the opening of their April concert in Seoul, and subsequently the rest of the tour.

V said he was depressed and frustrated, “but I took notes, wrote songs, and thought about who I was.”

In several livestream sessions, the members had mentioned how devastated they were with the cancellation of their plans. However, that did not stop them from performing and working on new songs.

In June, BTS staged their online concert “Bang Bang Con: The Live,” which drew more than 750,000 viewers or the equivalent of 15 stadium shows, and earned about $20 million.

The group has also been working on a new album, which they said was going to be entirely produced by the members themselves. The new album is expected to be released later this year.

For Jin, he said he turned to his fellow BTS members, family and friends for support. “I found again the people I love,” said the vocalist.

“Thinking about the future and trying hard are all important. But cherishing yourself, encouraging yourself, and keeping yourself happy is the most important,” he said.

“In a world of uncertainty, we must cherish the importance of ‘me,’ ‘you’ and ‘us,’” the eldest member added.

“We must try to love ourselves and imagine the future,” said leader RM.

“Our tomorrow may be dark, painful and difficult ... but the stars shine brightest when the night is darkest,” he said.

“It might feel like it’s always night and we’ll always be alone, but the night is always darkest before the first light of dawn.”

BTS recently released the phenomenal hit single “Dynamite,” which according to the group hopes to give comfort to people as the world faces its biggest challenge yet.
