20k individuals in GenSan, Glan, Malapatan affected by earthquake receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation
Twenty thousand individuals in General Santos City, as well as Glan and Malapatan in Sarangani who were affected by the 7.8-magnitude earthquake on Monday morning received aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation.
According to a report by "24 Oras" Friday, many families currently staying in temporary shelters at the Buayan Barangay Hall in General Santos have also been affected by heavy rains.
Delia Panaguiton shared that their home is no longer safe to stay in after deep cracks split their flooring.
"Mahirap talaga andito kami ngayon lalo na umulan tapos 'yung bahay namin doon, 'yung sahig, apat na biyak," she said.
While the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) canceled its tsunami warning early this week, fear still lingers for residents who live near coastal areas.
"Nabiyak 'yung sahig namin. 'Pag laki ang tubig, talagang papunta kami sa dagat kaya dito na lang muna kami pansamantala," added Panaguiton.
Another resident, Rolly Hechanova, recalled that the earthquake caused their kitchen to collapse.
"Pawis, init, overtime 'pag gabi magbiyahe, tapos ganun-ganon lang ang mangyari. Sa isang iglap, nawala 'yung pinaghirapan mo," he said.
GMA Kapuso Foundation continues its relief operations, coordinating with volunteers and partner organizations to deliver assistance to communities affected by the earthquake.
It distributed food packs, bread, and drinking water to approximately 20,000 individuals across General Santos and municipalities in Sarangani, including Glan and Malapatan.
Many residents are still in need of assistance. For those who wish to help, donations may be made to GMA Kapuso Foundation via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, Shopee, and Palawan Pay. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
According to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Friday, the reported death toll due to the 7.8- magnitude earthquake in Mindanao on Monday has increased to 55. A total of 1,120 people were reported injured, while 31 others were reported missing.
