South Cotabato residents affected by quake receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Residents in T'Boli, South Cotabato, who were affected by the powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Mindanao in June, have received aid from the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to Mel Tiangco's report on "24 Oras" on Friday, several families in T’Boli continue to persevere through determination and resourcefulness despite losing their livelihoods following the quake.

Among them is Gilbert Jamora, a farmer who now works as a habal-habal driver to provide for his family's daily needs while waiting for his livelihood to recover.

Gilbert said his banana plantation and home in Barangay Maan were severely damaged after the June 8 earthquake.

“Pero ngayon, mayroon na pang harvest pero kunti na lang, ma'am. Na-crack na 'yung farmers namin,” he said.

He also had to stop making charcoal in the fields due to fear of aftershocks and frequent rains.

Reaching Barangay Maan requires crossing rivers and navigating rocky roads, but the difficult terrain did not stop the GMA Kapuso Foundation from bringing assistance through its Operation Bayanihan relief mission.

In partnership with the Philippine Army's 105th Infantry Battalion, the foundation distributed food packs, hygiene kits, slippers, and hot porridge to affected residents.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation also extended support to rescued animals by donating dog and cat food to the Veterinary Office of General Santos City, Glan, and Sarangani Provincial Capitol.

“Maraming salamat sa tulong sa cat food and dog food na binigay niyo po. Araw-araw namin pinapakain 'yung mga aso. Makasustain din sila ng kahit mga ilang weeks,” said city veterinarian Prince Dili.

The GMA Kapuso Foundation was able to assist a total of 12,000 individuals through the second wave of Operation Bayanihan in the SOCCSKSARGEN region.
