Carla Abellena explains why she kept silent following separation from Tom Rodriguez

Months after Carla Abellena divorced Tom Rodriguez, she is finally speaking up about the issue.

In an interview on 'Updated With Nelson Canlas,' the Kapuso actress said that she simply wasn't ready to talk about what happened until now.

However, she said she was highly aware that the public knew that there was a problem.

"Ang daming lumalapit para magtanong kung pwede ma-interview or magbigay ng statement. Most especially a few months back, so of course I completely understand kung bakit you know, gusto lang nila basically ng answer," she said.

"So honestly, at that time, talagang I wasn't ready. I wasn't in the right mind space or state in my life na magsasalita ako na I open up and reveal very sensitive or important information, 'yung personal talaga," she added.

Carla said that there was "pressure" to give the public answers, because people think she owes them an explanation.

Still, she said that she didn't want to say anything at the height of the issue when she herself was struggling with processing the events and her own emotions.

"Ayoko namang at the height of whatever event or situation magsasalita ka tapos baka may masabi kang hindi maganda or dala ng emotions mo or whatever it is you were going through that time," she said.

"Ang hirap din naman ‘yung ganu'n na hindi mo binigyan ‘yung sarili mo ng time and, basically, kung ano man nangyayari hindi mo pa napoproseso. So mahirap din and we have to be, of course, careful din naman with what we say and then when we say it, mga ganu'n bagay."

She reminded listeners that although she's a celebrity, she's human, too.

"Gustuhin mo man magsalita na ‘di ba bugso ng damdamin mo or whatever, hindi naman din basta-basta ganun. Plus, ‘yun nga, tao din kami na may emotions, may mga pinagdadaanan, may mga problema din and struggles in life. So, you know, because na rin nga of social media, unfortunately nawawala nga ‘yung parang fine line between public and ‘yung private na lives namin. So 'yun mahirap din ‘yun," she said.

Tom and Carla tied the knot in October last year. Speculations of their split began in January when Tom unfollowed Carla on Instagram.
