Alex Eala on breaking Filipino stereotype of being a good singer: 'Mag-tennis na lang ako'

Alex Eala is aware she's breaking the common Filipino stereotype of being a good singer.

In an exclusive interview with GMA News' Vicky Morales, the Filipina tennis star shared she is often asked if she can sing because the Philippines is home to world-class talents such as Jessica Sanchez, Sofronio Vasquez, and Matty Juniosa.

“No, I’m not [a good singer],” Alex said good-naturedly. “I say that I break the stereotype, hindi ako magaling kumanta.”

“Mag-tennis na lang ako,” she added with a laugh.

The same interview saw the World No. 28 speak about a myriad of things, including the importance of maintaining genuine friendships despite her busy career.

“One thing I value in my life is girlhood and friendships,” she said. "I think it's so important, especially at the age that I'm at.”

“They’re really the ones who also give me a break from my life when it gets crazy sometimes," she added.

Before returning to the Philippines, Alex made a quick stop in Stockholm to watch a Bad Bunny concert with her friends.

In an earlier interview with GMA News Online, Alex also revealed that she now has a residence card in Spain, making it easier for her to travel to different countries for tournaments. Despite that, she said the Philippines remains her true home.

The recently concluded Wimbledon tournament marked the end of Alex's impressive grass-court season, during which she captured the WTA 125 title in Birmingham and reached the semifinals of the Berlin Tennis Open.
