Alexandra Eala's impressive Wimbledon campaign came to an end on Monday after she fell short to Italy's Jasmine Paolini, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, in the Round of 16.

Paolini came out strong, racing to a 4-1 lead in the opening set. Eala responded by winning three of the next four games to cut the deficit to 5-4, but the Italian held serve to close out the set, 6-4.

Eala bounced back in the second set. Trailing 3-2, the Filipina reeled off three consecutive games to seize a 5-3 advantage. Although Paolini held serve to stay alive, Eala served out the set to force a deciding third set.

The decider remained tightly contested, with both players locked at 3-3 before Paolini's experience showed. The Italian won three of the final four games to seal the victory and book her place in the quarterfinals.

Despite the defeat, Eala enjoyed a breakthrough run at the grass-court Grand Slam.

She defeated Renata Zarazua (6-1, 6-2), Maya Joint (3-6, 6-2, 6-0), and Iga Swiatek (7-6(9), 6-2) to become the first Filipina to reach the Wimbledon Round of 16 in the Open Era.
