DOT to tap 2 P-pop groups as PH tourism ambassadors

The Department of Tourism (DOT) will tap two P-pop groups as ambassadors for Philippine tourism to make the country’s image leave a lasting impression.

According to Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay, the agency's goal is to combine music and image in order to "form a feeling that stays."

"Music is very important. When you, for example, an anime, why do you like it? It's not just the images but the music behind," Angara-Mathay said.

Without revealing the P-pop groups, Angara-Mathay hinted that one of them was recently congratulated by the DOT for their achievement in the international audience.

In May, DOT conveyed it is keen on getting popular girl group BINI to be the country's tourism ambassadors.

BINI made history in April as the first all-Filipino girl group to perform at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.

“We are so proud of them for their Coachella stint and we congratulated them, of course. We always put value to our talents for waving our flag on the international stage,” Angara-Mathay said during President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s first state visit to Japan, where she was among the officials who joined the delegation.

In Resolution No. 370, the Senate reconized BINI's exemplified excellence and brought pride to the Philippines “through their achievement in the global arena” during their April 10 and 17 performances at Coachella.

“BINI’s success is a victory to be celebrated amidst the challenges and cries facing our country. During their performance at Coachella, they showcased our Filipino pride by incorporating traditional elements of ‘Pantropiko’ into their costumes, music, and choreography. The cherry on top was when BINI introduced themselves in their native languages,” said Senator Bam Aquino, who authored the resolution, in his speech. — LA, GMA News
