eGovPH usage up 700%, transactions surpass 800 million —DICT
eGovPH, the government's "one-stop" app for local and national government services, has surpassed 800 million transactions, with its usage surging 700% in the past year, the Department of Information and Communications Technology said.
In a statement on Monday, the DICT said that the eGovPH app has been downloaded 56 million times, averaging 100,000 downloads a day, and has processed more than 800 million transactions since it launched in 2023.
The eGovPH app integrates services from more than 1,300 government systems and helps users with transactions including for digital IDs; social welfare programs; permits and licenses; and citizen complaints.
According to DICT Undersecretary for E-Government David Almirol Jr., usage has soared by 700% over the past year, exceeding the agency's expectations.
He also acknowledged, however, that the surge has placed "significant" pressure on the platform, which resulted in a service interruption in April.
“Usage surged significantly. It was like an electrical system being overloaded because demand exceeded our capacity, eventually exhausting our available cloud resources,” he said.
At a Senate hearing on the outage, Almirol said that they had to disable some other government systems they are running on the same cloud services to free up space for the app.
In its statement on Monday, the DICT said that it "tapped backup systems and redundancy resources originally intended for disaster recovery" to keep the app running, and that Almirol is now "working closely" with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to secure additional funding for the app and the 28 other platforms run by the DICT. — BM, GMA News
