DOJ orders NBI to investigate Yuson killing

Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the killing of Batuan, Masbate Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III.

Department Order 564 dated October 18 authorized the NBI to file the appropriate charges against the suspects responsible for the killing.

NBI Director Dante Gierran was also ordered to regularly submit progress reports on their investigation.

The late Batuan vice mayor was shot to death while he was having breakfast in Sampaloc, Manila on October 9.

The following day, cops nabbed four suspects in his killing.

Investigators believed politics was the motive behind the killing.

Yuson’s widow Lalaine said that prior to his death, her husband had warned the family that if anything were to happen to him, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office board member Sandra Cam would be behind it

Cam’s son Marco Martin lost the Batuan mayoral race to Yuson’s son Charmax.

Cam has denied the allegations and relayed her condolences to the Yuson family. — Julia Mari Ornedo/DVM, GMA News
