Rolly death toll reaches 17; two injured, says NDRMMC

The National Disaster Risk Reduction on Management Council (NDRRMC) on Tuesday said a total of 17 individuals died and two others were injured in Region V and Calabarzon due to the onslaught of Super Typhoon Rolly. 

The number was lower compared to the report of the Office of Civil Defense V on Monday night that 20 died in the Bicol region. 

In Batangas province, a man was also reported to be missing in Ibaan town. 

In the latest situation report of the NDRRMC, no further information about the casualties were provided by the agency. NDRRMC spokesman Mark Timbal said the agency will publish the count provided by Region V once "the usual verification procedures are done." 

The fatalities include a man who drowned in Binangonan, Rizal; a man from Bacacay, Albay; a male from Tiwi, Albay; a woman from Daraga, Albay; three individuals in Guinobatan, Albay due to lahar flow; two from Malinao, Albay; one from Oas, Albay; a man from Camaligan, Camarines Sur; one from Gigmoto, Catanduanes; four from Virac; and one from San Miguel, Catanduanes.

For the injured victims, one was hit by debris in Pitogo, Quezon; one suffered laceration from a GI sheet in Boac, Marinduque; and one was hit by a fallen three in Juban, Sorsogon.

Two females are reported missing in Guinobatan, the NDRRMC said.

The latest report from OCD V indicated that 13 individuals were wounded due to Rolly. Of that number, 11 were from Albay, one in Sorsogon and another one from Camarines Norte. 

The NDRRMC has said more than two million individuals have been affected by the strong typhoon from Regions I, II, III, Calabarzon, MIMAROPA, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, Cordillera Administrative Region and the National Capital Region.

A total of 50 road sections and five bridges were affected by the flooding and landslide. Of that number, 37 roads and four bridges are still not passable. 

The NDRRMC also reported that a total of 165 cities and municipalities in Calabarzon, MIMAROPA, and Regions V and VIII are still experiencing power outage.

When it comes to water supply, a total of 83 cities and  municipalities in Region V are still experiencing interruption. 

Network interruption is also a problem for some 68 cities and municipalities in Regions V, Calabarzon and MIMAROPA. 

The OCD V said a total of 79,638 residences have been damaged in the region. 

According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, a total of P6,662,741 worth of assistance has been extended to the victims of Rolly. 

The NDRRMC said the assistance from DSWD as well as the Department of Health, other localities and non-government organizations already amounted to P26.6 million.

President Rodrigo Duterte visited some areas hit by Rolly on Monday in Catanduanes and Albay.

He ordered an investigation into quarrying activities in Albay following the extent of damage in the province brought by Rolly. 

Vice President Leni Robredo also visited the typhoon-hit areas to extend aid to the victims. 

PAGASA said Rolly, which has weakened into a tropical storm, will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday. —KG, GMA News
