Bong Go insists he will run for president only if Duterte is his running mate in Eleksyon 2022

Senator Christopher "Bong" Go on Friday reiterated that he would only gun for the presidency in next year's elections if President Rodrigo Duterte will be his running mate.

Go issued the statement after PDP-Laban officials nominated him and Duterte were as their presidential and vice presidential bets, respectively, for the upcoming polls.

“Gaya ng sinabi ko noon, ang makapagbabago lang ng aking desisyon na tumakbo bilang Presidente ay kung si Tatay Digong ang aking magiging Bise Presidente. Dahil alam ko na yun ang magiging totoong ‘continuity,’” Go said.

(Like what I have said before, I will only change my decision to run for president if Tatay Digong will be my vice president because that will push for continuity.)

He also reiterated that he is leaving his fate to God and the Duterte family, including Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, who previously said she is open to running for president in the 2022 elections.

“But, as I have said many times before, I leave my fate to God, to the Dutertes (kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte at Mayor Sara Duterte) -- kung ano man po ang kanilang magiging desisyon sa pulitika (whatever their political decisions may be) --- and to the Filipino people to whom I owe this opportunity to serve our country,” said Go, who had served as Duterte’s longtime aide.

Go urged the public to consider him as the last choice for president, saying he is not interested to vie for the post.

In March, Go said he may run for the country’s top post if President Duterte will consider running as his vice president. His statement came after Duterte, in a speech, said Go wanted to be his successor.

The PDP-Laban national council earlier adopted a resolution urging President Duterte to run for vice president in the coming elections.  —KBK, GMA News
