Bicol death toll due to Rolly rises to 10


Three more fatalities were reported in the Bicol Region due to the onslaught of Typhoon Rolly (international name: Goni), bringing the total death toll in the region to 10, including a 5-year old child.

Data released by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday indicated that nine of the deaths were in Albay, and one was from Catanduanes.

Broken down, the fatalities from Albay included three from Guinobatan including a 5-year-old child, two from Malinao, and one each from Daraga, Oas, Polangui, and Tabaco City.

Three individuals were also reported missing in Guinobatan, where some 180 houses were submerged under lahar on Sunday.

The latest figures showed that 108,831 families or 390,298 persons had been displaced by the typhoon.

Of these, 94,706 families or 345,044 individuals are in evacuation centers;  13,858 families or 49,815 persons fled to other areas.

The previous report of the DND indicated seven deaths, all from Albay, as of 6 p.m. on November 1.

Two areas in Luzon -- Batangas and Occidental Mindoro -- remain under Tropical Wind Cyclone Signal 3, with Typhoon Rolly expected to weaken into a severe tropical storm within the next 24 hours. — DVM, GMA News
