Kakai Bautista says she reached out to Apple David over Chad Gammad romance

Kakai Bautista revealed that she reached out to Apple David to learn more about her relationship with Chad Gammad.

In the latest episode of "Kalurks!" Kakai looked back on the bashing she received after a video of her defending the couple over their age gap went viral.

"Maybe because I'm wrong, I have shortcomings with what I said, they're right. I called Apple David. Can I talk to you, I clarified everything," Kakai said in a mix of English and Filipino.

["Dahil baka mali ako, meron akong pagkukulang sa mga sinabi ko, tama sila, tumawag agada ko kay Apple David. Can I talk to you, nilinaw ko lahat," Kakai said.]

Kakai said that Apple, 33, told her complete story of her relationship with the 18-year-old basketball player.

"To the bashers, go to the [Department of Social Welfare and Development], talk to his mom. That's all I say because you don't know anything," Kakai said.

["Sa mga basher, punta kayo ng [Department of Social Welfare and Development], kausapin n'yo 'yung nanay. Ganun na lang 'yung sinasabi ko kasi wala kayong alam," Kakai said.]

"I myself, I know it. It came from the person herself," she added. "Because I know, I make sure that I can fight for and stand by what I said. So I called her, I said, I just want to hear it from you."

"Ako, alam ko. Galing na mismo sa tao," she added. "Kasi alam ko, naninigurado ako na kaya kong ipaglaban at panindigan 'yung sinabi ko. So I called her, sabi ko, I just want to hear it from you."

Kakai added that she asked Apple to describe Chad as a boyfriend.

"'He takes care of me,' she said," Kakai said.

["'He takes care of me,' sabi niya."]

Kakai, 48, also said that if she and Apple were the same age, she is OK with getting into a relationship with an 18-year-old.

She added that there are double standards when it comes to age gaps in relationships, with men accepted for dating younger women but women criticized for dating younger men.

"If a person rarely gets happy in their life, wouldn't you give that to them?" Kakai said.

["Kung isang tao, minsan lang sasaya sa buhay, hindi mo pa ba ibibigay?"]

"And, why do you care, are you the one who feeds them? Life is already messy. Let's be happy for other people. If it's not our business, let's not give them time," she added.

["Tsaka, ano ba pakialam mo, ikaw ba nagpapakain? Sabog-sabog na ang buhay natin. Maging masaya tayo para sa ibang tao. Kung hindi naman natin business, 'wag natin bigyan ng ano."

In May, Apple confirmed her relationship with Chad through a video statement.

"I know it's very risky relationship because of the age gap, but it's a risk we are both taking," the courtside reporter said in a video statement.

"I hope people can be kind enough to allow us to do that in peace," she added.

In a previous TikTok live, Apple slammed netizens who were criticizing their relationship.

"Is it too hard to respect other people's decisions? We're happy. Our families are supportive. It's sad that we're happy but other people are destroying our happiness," she said.
