Liza Soberano to Dolly de Leon on pursuing Hollywood career: 'I was inspired by people like you'
Liza Soberano said that her fellow Filipina actress Dolly de Leon has been an inspiration for her as she makes a name for herself in Hollywood.
In a video uploaded by Universal Pictures Philippines, Dolly asked the "Lisa Frankenstein" star how exciting it was for her to break into Hollywood.
"Hi, Miss Dolly! Oh my gosh. Thank you so much for saying yes to this and for asking that question," Liza said. "The feeling that I got after the trailer of 'Lisa Frankenstein' dropped was para akong nabunutan ng tinik."
The 26-year-old actress admitted that the past two years were the most difficult times for her career, but it became worth it when the trailer was released.
"I was inspired by people like you who are constantly trying to push the envelope striving for greatness in everything that you do, and I wanted that for myself, too, and so here we are now, Miss Dolly," she said.
"I'm proud to say that both of us are part of a large community of Filipino people that are trying to represent our country and make our fellow Filipinos proud," she added.
Directed by Zelda Williams and written by Diablo Cody, "Lisa Frankenstein" is inspired by the gothic novel "Frankenstein" by English writer Mary Shelley.
The movie follows Lisa played by Kathryn Newton, a misunderstood teenager, and her high school crush played by Cole Sprouse, who happens to be a handsome corpse.
Liza plays the role of Taffy, the stepsister of Kathryn's character, Lisa.
Meanwhile, Dolly is currently making waves in Hollywood with two upcoming films, "Ghostlight" and "Between the Temples." She is also filming a series, "Nine Perfect Strangers," in Germany.
She made history by being the first Filipina to be nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in Any Motion Picture for "Triangle of Sadness." She was also nominated for a BAFTA and attended the Oscars.
