BTS decides not to submit music to 2027 Grammy Awards

BTS has decided not to submit their music to the 2027 Grammy Awards.

RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook made the announcement on their individual Instagram Stories

“We have decided to not enter the Grammys this year,” the members said in Korean as translated into English by Instagram. “I hope music itself can be heard and loved rather than being distinguished by region or language."

BTS ended their statement by thanking ARMYs for their never-ending support.

The announcement comes after the Recording Academy announced five new categories for the 2027 Grammy Awards, which includes Best Asian Pop Music Performance, a category that drew mixed reactions from netizens.

While some say it's a step toward getting Asian music recognized, many said it ostracizes Asian acts from winning in major categories, pointing at BTS' massively successful new album, "Arirang."

BTS has notably earned five Grammy nominations in their career.

The 2027 Grammys will also honor Best R&B Collaboration Performance, Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance, Best Traditional Folk Album, and Best Latin Song.

"Arirang" was released in March, marking BTS's return to the music industry after a four-year hiatus, during which they enlisted in the South Korean military and pursued solo careers.

The album includes the songs “Swim,” “Merry Go Round,” and “Normal.”

In April, they kicked off their biggest world tour yet.

They are set to visit Manila for three shows in March 2027.
