Another tenement mural painted to honor Kobe Bryant

Another mural has been painted on a tenement basketball court to honor Kobe Bryant, who died in a helicopter crash on January 27 (Manila time).

A group called Painted World began working on the basketball court of the Tenement Building in Punta Sta. Ana, Manila on February 1.

With six artists and six extra hands, they painted around 10 hours a day and finished the mural by midnight on February 7.

The artwork showed Bryant in Lakers uniform with wings and a halo on the background. It replaced the image of Michael Jordan, which was on the basketball court since June.

"I think for us it's not a wake, it's more of thank you and farewell," said head artist Maya Carandang of their tribute to the basketball legend.

Bryant, 41, was killed alongside his daughter Gianna, 13, and seven other people when their helicopter crashed on the hills in Calabasas, California.

They were on their way to a basketball game in Thousand Oaks where Gianna was supposed to play and Bryant would coach.

A mural of the father and daughter sharing a touching moment during the 2016 NBA All-Star Game was painted in a tenement housing in Taguig City the day after the tragic incident.

Taguig City artists also painted a mural of the five-time NBA champion on a barangay basketball court, which he visited on one of his trips to the Philippines.
