Rene Baterbonia’s remains will be returned to his hometown in Talacogon, Agusan del Sur on Monday, June 15, the municipal government said on Sunday.
The local government unit said Baterbonia’s remains are expected to arrive between 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The arrival will be a private moment for his family.
“We humbly request the public to respect the solemnity of the moment and allow Bobet’s family and relatives to have a private time upon his arrival,” the public advisory read.
A public viewing will be held at the Talacogon Municipal Evacuation and Gymnasium in Barangay San Agustin starting at 1:00 p.m. of Tuesday, June 16.
Baterbonia, a Palarong Pambansa standout, was recruited to boost the Ateneo men’s basketball team for the upcoming UAAP Season 89.
On June 8, he and teammate Divine Adili died due to asphyxia by drowning during a team building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora.
Authorities and sports bodies have launched investigations following the incident.
A wake was held at the Arlington Memorial Chapel before his body was flown to Davao.
