Alex Eala surges back to Top 30 of WTA rankings, bags almost P4 million after Berlin Open
Alex Eala may have fallen short in her Berlin Tennis Open campaign, but the Filipina ace is coming out of it with a return to the WTA Top 30 and a hefty amount of cash prizes as she continues her grass-court surge.
The Filipina jumped five places higher in the latest WTA rankings and is now world No. 30, eclipsing notable players like Hailey Baptiste, Emma Raducanu, Donna Vekic, and Katerina Siniakova.
The 21-year-old Eala is also expected to take home around P4 million in cash prizes.
The developments came after her stellar run in the WTA500 event, where she beat a pair of Top 10 stars.
She stunned world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in the Round of 16 before ousting No. 8 Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals to reach the semifinal round.
There, Eala failed to advance after a straight-sets loss to Linda Noskova. Noskova eventually completed the title romp by escaping Jessiva Pegula in the finals.
Eala is now set to compete in the singles and doubles events of the Bad Homburg Open later today.
