Gary Bejino misses Paralympics men's butterfly finals

Filipino para swimmer Gary Bejino fell short in booking a slot in the men's 50-meter butterfly - S6 finals on Monday in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

Bejino clocked 36.14 seconds in the heats round of the event to finish 14th overall. This is 5.33 seconds behind tournament leader Jingang Wang of China. Only the top 8 will advance to the finals.

Bejino will still compete in the freestyle and backstroke events. 

On Thursday, Bejino also missed the finals bus of the men's individual medley event.

Earlier, fellow para swimmer Ernie Gawilan wrapped up his Paralympics campaign after finishing 10th in the heats round of the men's 100m backstroke event. —Justin Kenneth Carandang/KG, GMA News
