Alex Eala to open Wimbledon campaign vs. Renata Zarazua

Alexandra “Alex” Eala will face world No. 76 Renata Zarazua of Mexico in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships.

The draw was determined on Friday.

Zarazua, 28, will be making her third main-draw appearance at the grass-court Grand Slam.

In 2024, she lost to Emma Raducanu, 7-6, 6-3, in the first round. The following year, she advanced to the second round before falling to Amanda Anisimova, 6-4, 6-3.

Eala, meanwhile, will be making her second career main-draw appearance at Wimbledon after losing to Barbora Krejcikova in the first round last year, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Zarazua is also a familiar opponent for Eala, having defeated the Filipina in an ITF tournament in August 2024, 6-3, 4-6, 3-6.

The two also teamed up in the doubles event at last year's French Open, where they reached the second round.
