UAAP: UST beats UP to boost women’s volleyball Final Four bid
The University of Santo Tomas defeated the University of the Philippines, 19-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-19, on Sunday in the UAAP Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The victory improved the Golden Tigresses’ record to 8-5, while UP ended its season at 5-8.
A win against National University in their final preliminary round game on Wednesday will secure UST a spot in the postseason.
“Very crucial itong game na ito and ang mindset lang namin as a team ay ibigay lang ang best namin, na huwag na kaming magtira, 100 percent na ’yung ibuhos namin, like wala nang pagduda sa sarili namin and trust lang sa teammates and sistema na meron kami,” said Poyos, who delivered 25 points, 11 excellent digs, and eight excellent receptions.
Angge Poyos led the Tigresses with 25 points built on 24 attacks, along with 11 digs and eight receptions. Reg Jurado added 17 points from 14 attacks, two aces, and a block, plus eight digs.
Nina Ytang, meanwhile, capped her collegiate career with 19 points and two digs, while Irah Jaboneta had 16 points, 17 receptions, and 11 digs for UP.
