Alas Pilipinas Girls sweep Tunisia to bolster hopes in FIVB U17 World Championship

The Alas Pilipinas Girls rolled to their second win in a row after blanking Tunisia, 27-25, 25-19, 25-16, in the 2026 FIVB Girls U17 World Championship on early Sunday in Chile.

Alas built on its historic win over Mexico last Friday to improve to 2-1 in Pool B and improve its chances of advancing to the next round while also keeping Tunisia winless in three outings.

Rising outside hitter in 16-year-old Caera Celis once again took the scoring cudgels for the Philippines after dropping 15 points anchored on 13 attacks and two blocks to follow on her 24-point explosion in their four-set romp of Mexico the other day.

Xyz Ellen Rayco, a 15-year-old recruit, once again backstopped Celis after churning out 13 markers while 14-year-old Sharina Rhyza Lleses poured in 10 points.

The 24 participating teams are grouped into four groups for the first stage of the tournament with the four clubs finishing atop each pool advancing to the 'eighthfinals'.

The eight eighthfinal winners will then move on to the quarterfinals while the other eight eighthfinal loses will still compete in the classification round.

The Philippines will next play Peru on Tuesday at 5 a.m. (Philippine time) before taking on Venezuela on Wednesday at 2 a.m.
