Carl Angelo's parents doubt Bagcal's armed robbery claim vs. son

The parents of Carl Angelo Arnaiz on Monday said it was not in the character of their son to rob taxi driver Tomas Bagcal.

According to the report of GMA News' Emil Sumangil on GMA News TV's Quick Response Team, the 19-year-old's mother and father said their child did not have a lot of friends and seldom leaves the house.

Public Attorney's Office (PAO) chief Attorney Persida Acosta also casted doubt that Arnaiz would commit armed robbery on grounds that he ran his own business.

The PAO chief added that his mother had sent him P17,000 from the United Arab Emirates where she was working.

On Sunday, Bagcal related to reporters how Arnaiz stole his wallet. He also said the teenager tried to shoot him but the gun malfunctioned.

"Opo, kinalabit niya 'yung baril. Hindi lang pumutok," Bagcal had said.

"And then that time na nakuha na 'yung wallet ko, pinalo po niya [ako]," he added, presenting on his wrist as proof.

The driver narrated how he was able to take Arnaiz to a police station in Caloocan City after the teenager was beaten up by bystanders who witnessed the scene.

Bagcal described the killing of Arnaiz as "stage-play" which was "scripted."

He also denied having executed any affidavits on the incident. Several inconsistencies were earlier detected on the two affidavits presented by the Caloocan City police.

The officers involved -- Police Officers 1 Jeffrey Perez And Ricky Arquilita -- had claimed that they killed Arnaiz after he fired the first shot as he resisted arrest. — Margaret Claire Layug/BAP, GMA News
