Makati Mayor Binay vows continued assistance to residents of barangays transferred to Taguig

Makati Mayor Abby Binay on Monday said the city government will find ways to continue the assistance to residents of the 10 barangays that will be transferred to Taguig City’s jurisdiction.

In a video posted on the city’s Facebook page My Makati, Binay said she will coordinate and work with national government departments and agencies to ensure the continued aid to the affected residents.

“Handa ako at ang inyong city government na tulungan kayo. Saan man kayo mapunta kayo ay mananatiling Makatizens (Makati citizens),” she said.

(I and the city government are ready to help you. You will remain as Makatizens regardless of the local government where you will be transferred.)

“Hahanap kami ng paraan para maipagpatuloy ng Makati ang pagtulong at paglilingkod sa inyo (We will find ways for Makati to continue its assistance and service to you),” Binay added.

Binay expressed concern that the 300,000 affected residents would not receive the same assistance such as for education and health under the jurisdiction of the Taguig government.

The Taguig government earlier said the affected residents of the 10 barangays would receive the same level of service given to all the other city communities.

In June, the Supreme Court (SC) Special Third Division rejected Makati's motion asking the high court to allow it to file a second motion for reconsideration over its territorial dispute with Taguig.

In September 2022, the SC also denied Makati's motion for reconsideration assailing the SC's December 1, 2021 decision that ruled in favor of Taguig.

In 2021, the SC ruled that the Fort Bonifacio Military Reservation, consisting of parcels 3 and 4, psu-2031, was part of the territory of Taguig City.  —KBK, GMA Integrated News
