Taguig proposes joint transition team with Makati for BGC

The Taguig City Government on Thursday proposed the creation of a joint transition team with Makati City to speed up the transfer of 10 barangays and administration of Bonifacio Global City (BGC).

Taguig made the proposal after Makati City Mayor Abby Binay vowed to find ways to continue assisting residents of the 10 barangays that will be transferred to Taguig and expressed concerns for the 300,000 affected residents.

“Instead, it proposed the creation of a joint transition team that would coordinate with the national agencies and all stakeholders for the speedy transfer of administration,” it added.

“It emphasized that the common goal should be the welfare of the residents,” it added.

Taguig maintained that it is “prepared to take on the responsibility of governing” the 10 barangays that will be transferred “with the same commitment and solicitude it has done with its 28 barangays.”

In December 2021, the Supreme Court ruled that the Fort Bonifacio Military Reservation, consisting of parcels 3 and 4, psu-2031, was part of the territory of Taguig City.

The SC Special Third Division affirmed this ruling in April as it denied Makati’s motion for reconsideration.

This prompted Makati to file a motion asking the Court to allow it to file a second motion for reconsideration over the territorial dispute, a motion that was also denied.

On Monday, in a video posted on her Facebook page, Makati Mayor Abby Binay said the Makati LGU will respect the Court's decision.

“Hindi pa kami nakakatanggap ng nasabing desisyon, ngunit nais ko linawin na igagalang ng Makati ang desisyon ng Korte Suprema,” Binay said.
