Third party probe underway into fatal QC police mobile crash
A third party technical investigation has been launched into the police mobile crash in Quezon City that killed five detainees.
“We are still awaiting po yung technical inspection report. Pina-undergo po natin siya ng inspection sa third party para malaman natin kung ano talaga yung problema ng sasakyan,” Quezon City Police District traffic enforcement unit chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Josef Geoffrey Lyndon Lim said at a press briefing on Monday.
(We are still awaiting the technical inspection report. The vehicle underwent an inspection by a third party to find out the actual problem with the vehicle.)
The third party is the automotive manufacturer of the concerned vehicle.
“Pero based po doon sa mga initial statement, na-lose control po yung driver natin, nahirapan siya kasi gumewang na yung sasakyan. And allegedly, may naramdaman silang kabig doon sa sasakyan po,” Lim said.
(But based on initial statements, our driver lost control, he struggled because the vehicle swerved. And allegedly, they felt a weird movement from the vehicle.)
On April 24, five persons under police custody (PUPC) died after their vehicle collided with a wall in Barangay Payatas. They were en route to the Payatas City Jail when the incident occurred.
The driver of the police mobile was placed under arrest.
Authorities said the driver underwent an Alcohol Breath Analyzer (ABA) test, which yielded negative results.
He is now facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property. —RF, GMA News
