UP Mindanao joins call for justice for Christine Dacera death

University of the Philippines Mindanao has joined calls for justice for the death of flight attendant Christine Angelica Dacera, who was found lifeless in a Makati City hotel on New Year's Day.

"We, the UP Mindanao community, are one with her family and friends in calling for justice," UP Mindanao said in a statement extending condolences to Dacera's family.

"We urge the authorities to investigate and serve the justice she deserves," it said.

Dacera, a graduate of BA Communication Arts program at UP Mindanao, was found dead in the bathtub inside a room in City Garden Grand Hotel around noontime of January 1 after an overnight party.

Three people have so far been nabbed and charged with rape with homicide in connection to her death, while nine others are still at large.

The hotel has yet to release a statement on the incident.

In its statement, UP Mindanao said it is "high time to dismantle the macho-feudal system that perpetuates sexual violence."

One of the suspects in alleged rape and killing, Gregorio Angelo Rafael, has denied any role in the crime.   —KBK, GMA News
