Marcos leads rice distribution to local farmers in Roxas City
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday distributed rice in Roxas City, Capiz to local farmers and other members of vulnerable sectors, with the aim to help them cope with the effects of rising food and fuel prices.
This was part of the Marcos administration's directive to local government units to maximize the use of their Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) and allocate up to 100% of the funds for rice distribution to their constituents.
According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), a total of 500 beneficiaries received 10 kilograms of rice during the event held at a covered gym in Barangay Milibili.
Of the total number of beneficiaries, 300 were farmers from Barangays Bolo, Bato, Bago, and Milibili, all of whom belong to farmers’ associations.
Meanwhile, the remaining 200 beneficiaries came from multi-sectoral groups, including persons with disabilities (PWDs) and solo parents from Barangay Milibili.
First Lady Louise ''Liza'' Araneta-Marcos was also present during the rice distribution.
Marcos earlier said that the rice distribution, which kicked off in the City of Manila, would be conducted six times within the year.
During a recent event in Batangas province, Marcos announced plans to increase funding for the LGSF, provided that the allocations are managed and utilized efficiently by local officials.
The rice distribution has shown strong collaboration between national and local governments in addressing socio-economic pressures, delivering assistance directly to communities promptly and effectively, the PCO said. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
