The provincial government of Albay has declared a state of calamity amid a surge in dengue cases, with 1,785 infections recorded from January to September 8, 2026.

In a “24 Oras Weekend” report on Saturday, the Albay Provincial Health Office said 14 of the recorded cases resulted in deaths.

Legazpi City logged the highest number of dengue cases at nearly 380 among Albay’s 18 cities and municipalities.

The provincial government urged the public to keep their surroundings clean and eliminate potential mosquito breeding grounds to help prevent the spread of dengue. — Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/MCG, GMA News
