WATCH: Kanlaon Volcano spews 500-meter ash plumes anew
Kanlaon Volcano spewed ash plumes anew on Wednesday morning that rose 500 meters into the sky, state volcanologists said.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) shared time lapse footage of the ash emission recorded from 5:47 a.m. to 6:06 a.m. of April 22.
“This event generated grayish plumes that rose 500 meters above the crater before drifting southwest, as captured by IP camera at Kanlaon Volcano Observatory–Canlaon City (KVO-CC),” PHIVOLCS said.
The day before, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) issued a volcano alert warning residents of Negros Oriental and Negros Occidental of potential ashfall from Kanlaon Volcano's ash emission that day.
Last week, PHIVOLCS also recorded two incidents of ash emissions from Kanlaon Volcano, which had three moderately explosive eruptions in February and March this year.
State volcanologists reminded the public that Alert Level 2 – or a moderate level of volcanic unrest – remains in effect over Kanlaon Volcano. — JMA, GMA News
