Lava flow and collapse along the Mi-isi Gully of Mayon Volcano was observed late Monday evening by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

PHIVOLCS recorded the lava effusion and collapse at 11:13 PM and 11:21 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2026 and posted the sped-up camera footage online.

"Effusive eruption at Mayon Volcano continues for the 120th consecutive day, generating incandescent lava flows, pyroclastic density currents (PDC) or “uson”, and rockfalls," the agency reported.

PHIVOLCS underscored that Alert Level 3 prevails over Mayon and entry into the 6-km Permanent Danger Zone must be prohibited.

Increased volcanic activity was observed over the Mayon Volcano on Saturday, causing ash to fall over some areas in the province of Albay.

PHIVOLCS reported an episode of lava flow collapse-fed pyroclastic density current took place and that ashfall is affecting the towns of Camalig and Guinobatan in Albay.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) said on Monday that 52,000 families are affected by the Mayon Volcano’s unrest, with 1,444 families or 5,459 individuals temporarily staying in evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, there are 26 families or 85 individuals who are staying for the meantime with their relatives, the DSWD added. — BAP, GMA News
