GenSan Airport reopens to commercial flights June 15
Operations of commercial flights at General Santos International Airport will resume on Monday, June 15, following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said.
“Nagsagawa na ang DOTr at CAAP ng kumpletong safety assessment, and we confirmed na puwede nang ituloy bukas ‘yung commercial operations sa GenSan Airport para hindi na maantala ‘yung biyahe ng ating mga pasahero,” DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez said in a statement.
(The DOTr and CAAP have conducted a full safety assessment and confirmed that commercial operations at GenSan Airport can resume tomorrow to prevent further delays in passenger travel.)
The resumption follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to expedite repair works at the airport.
To ensure safe and orderly operations, CAAP has coordinated with airlines, airport stakeholders, and government agencies. Passengers are advised to coordinate directly with their airlines for updated flight schedules and travel arrangements.
As of June 14, the Office of Civil Defense reported that about 173,000 families, or roughly 724,000 individuals, have been affected by the earthquake that struck on June 8. 173k families affected by M7.8 Mindanao earthquake – OCD
