WATCH: Kanlaon Volcano emits ash at 5:51 a.m., Aug 24, 2026

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on Monday released sped-up camera footage of ash emissions from Kanlaon Volcano.

According to PHIVOLCS, the emissions occurred at 5:51 a.m.

“The event generated a grayish plume that rose 200 meters above the summit crater before drifting east, as visually recorded by the Upper Pantao Observation Station (VKUP),” it said in a Facebook post.

PHIVOLCS said Alert Level 2 remains in effect over the volcano.

According to the agency, Alert Level 2 is issued for a moderate level of volcanic unrest, which involves elevated levels of volcanic earthquakes, steam/gas emission, ground deformation and hot spring temperature, intermittent steam/ash explosions and above baseline Sulfur Dioxide emission rates, and increased swelling of the volcanic edifice.

Under this level, PHIVOLCS said there is probably an intrusion of magma at depth, which may lead to a magmatic eruption. Due to this, it said that entry within the permanent danger zone must be prohibited. —Joahna Lei Casilao/AOL, GMA News
