A low-pressure area (LPA) formerly identified as Caloy was spotted east of Central Luzon early Sunday, while a frontal system continued to affect Extreme Northern Luzon, according to the state weather bureau.

In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was estimated at 980 kilometers east of Central Luzon as of 3 a.m.

PAGASA said the frontal system would bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Batanes and the Babuyan Islands, with possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, meanwhile, may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms, the agency said.

PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms could trigger flash floods or landslides in affected areas.

Moderate winds blowing from the northeast to north were forecast over Northern Luzon, with coastal waters ranging from 1.2 to 2.1 meters.

The rest of Luzon and the Visayas were expected to experience light to moderate winds with coastal waters ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters, while Mindanao would have slight to moderate coastal waters with waves reaching up to 1.2 meters.

At the PAGASA Science Garden weather station in Diliman, Quezon City, the highest temperature recorded on Saturday reached 36.1 degrees Celsius at 2 p.m., while the lowest temperature was logged at 28.2 degrees Celsius at 5 a.m.

Sunrise on Sunday is at 5:28 a.m., while sunset is expected at 6:17 p.m.—MCG, GMA News
