A low-pressure area (LPA) east of Northeastern Mindanao and the southwest monsoon, locally known as habagat, will continue to affect parts of the country on Sunday, bringing rains and possible flooding, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In its 4 a.m. bulletin on Sunday, PAGASA said the LPA was estimated at 3 a.m. at 890 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao.

The weather disturbance is expected to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao Region.

PAGASA warned residents in these areas to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides due to moderate, at times heavy, rains.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will bring similar weather conditions over the Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan, with the same risk of flooding and landslides.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country, meanwhile, will experience partly to mostly cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms.

PAGASA said severe thunderstorms may also trigger flash floods or landslides.

The highest temperature recorded at PAGASA’s Science Garden station in Quezon City on Saturday was 32.7 degrees Celsius at 3:30 p.m., while the lowest was 26.0 degrees Celsius at 6 a.m.

PAGASA said the sun rises at 5:30 a.m. on Sunday and is expected to set at 6:29 p.m. —MCG, GMA News
